Since psychedelic rock band Kula Shaker started its career as Objects of Desire in 1988, the band changed names twice and lineup more often. After backpacking through India, guitarist and lead singer Crispian Mills named the group after the eighth century indian emperor and holy man Kulashekhara, ninth of the twelve Alvar saints. Kula Shaker's debut album K stormed the charts in 1996, hit single Govinda is the first british top-10 song with all Sanskrit lyrics. The band split up in 1999 but rejoined five years later, except for Jay Darlington who went to play keyboards with Oasis.
