Together with Daniela Mercury, Ivete Sangalo leads the axé scene of the modern música popular brasileira type. In 1993, Sony appointed her as the lead singer of Banda Eva, a famous axé group with a long history of frequently changing lead vocalists, Daniela Mercury being one of them. After six albums and lots of commercial success, a Rainha da Bahia kicked off an even more successful solo career which led from sold-out stadiums and platinum records to sharing the stage with bossa nova guitarist, political activist, and tropicalismo pioneer Gilberto Gil. Ivete Sangalo is a member of the controversial brazilian political protest movement Cansei, marijuana advocate Gilberto Gil became brazilian Minister of Culture for the Green Party in 2003. Gil could be Sangalo's grandfather by brazilian standards. Céu da Boca is a song about french kissing (chupa toda! chupa toda!). Viva o Brasil!
