Capitial Inicial from Brasília was formed in 1982 from the remains of post-punk group Aborto Elétrico. Their new wave sound, popular at the time, matched the coldness of Brazil's artificial capital. Desolate Brasília was soon left for much more energetic São Paulo. In the '90s the band changed their lineup and ditched their keyboards in favour of a more aggressive guitar punk style. At the turn of the millennium the group pulled an acoustic album from an MTV Brazil Unplugged gig, which turned into a massive hit. This album features a warmer rock sound of which the brazilian version of Iggy Pop's The Passenger is a prime example. After a brief excursion to rock and roll Capital Inicial returned to their original Aborto Elétrico post-punk roots.
